Cherokee Creeks Stables


Cherokee Creeks Stables offers an amazing camping experience for
you and your horses. Once home to the Cherokee Indians and still
beautifully preserved, the mountain trails offer spectacular views,
waterfalls, history and more. Ride at elevations between 1600 and
2000 feet. Cool off by natural old mine shaft breezes while enjoying
the scenery. We provide 20 stalls and 160 acres of privately owned
Northwest Georgia Mountains, adjoining 3000 acres of Fort Mountain
State Park. Each stall is 10’x12’ specifically built for horse
safety in mind. The barn has a 16 foot alleyway. Stable stalls and
campsites supply water and electricity hook ups as well as day-use
parking area. Hot showers are also available at the barn. More than
20 miles of horse trails offer loop rides varying from 3 miles to 16
miles.
On these horse trails you will pass through a variety of landscapes such as lush forest coves and wind swept ridge tops. Enjoy sensational wildflowers in spring, and brilliant hues of green foliage in the summer. Renew your love of vibrant colors in the fall and extraordinary views in the winter. Cliffs and waterfalls as well as abandoned mines that blow naturally cool and warm air throughout the seasons, give added appeal to your horseback riding experience. Stable and Campsite rules:
At check in, negative Coggins are required, a waiver is signed and fee is paid. Safe and considerate conduct is expected. No alcohol is allowed outside the campsite, and no smoking near the stables. Horses cannot go near the pond. A special area is reserved for campfires and cookouts within the campsites. Horses are not to be tied to trees at the campsites. Riders must stay on marked trails. No riding between sunset and sunrise. No reckless or fast riding and horses should not be left unattended or unbridled. Anyone found in violation of these rules will face criminal prosecution and be banned from use of horse trails in all Georgia state parks.
Safety Tips: Tell someone your itinerary and expected return time Be prepared for the unexpected weather changes by dressing in layers and carrying rain gear Take a map, water, snacks, first aid kit, flashlight and whistle. Three short blasts on a whistle are known as a call for help. Do not stray from trails. If you become lost, stay in one location and wait for help. This will make it easier for rescuers to find you Pack out all trash Do not pick flowers or disturb wildlife Protect the landscape by staying on the trails.
Reservations and Fees Reservations are required from December 1 through March 15 due to the slow business season. Reservations are recommended during the rest of the year for riding. Reservations are required for stalls and hookups year round. $10 per horse trail fee per day. However, there is no charge if you are camping and stalling $5 per horse trail fee per day if you are only camping or stalling $15 per night per trailer to camp with power and water at 12 camp sites $12 per night per stall if you bring your own bedding and clean your own stall $15 per night per stall if we provide bedding and clean your stall We accept checks, credit card or cash
